AVHRR images can show the important properties of blowing dust. First, examine the visible and longwave IR window images over central Asia. There are two areas of blowing dust in this scene, one over water and the other over land. Can you identify them? You'll probably able to spot the regions of thick dust, but there are surrounding regions of thinner dust that are harder to identify.
