  • Understand the influence of the MJO on tropical cyclone genesis; which phase of the MJO is conducive to tropical cyclone activity
  • Use the pattern of highs and lows on the 850 hPa chart to identify equatorial n=1 Rossby wave and mixed Rossby-gravity waves
  • Identify equatorial Rossby waves and mixed Rossby-gravity waves from satellite IR images
  • Identify the wet phase of strong Kelvin waves from satellite images
  • Identify equatorial Rossby waves and mixed Rossby-gravity waves from satellite images
  • Understand how equatorial waves affect tropical weather
  • Understand conditions that are conducive to tropical cyclogenesis from equatorial waves
