Satellite Feature Identification: Cyclogenesis

This was a very good informative lesson. I had no prior knowledge of cyclogenesis, but now i have a better understanding. The only problem i had was that i didn't have adobe flash player on my laptop so it was a bit of a task to get the lesson started.

When asked "why do we use Water Vapor imagery for cyclones?" it was no where to be found in the lesson...at all. Don't put a question in there assuming I already know the answer.

Good training.

Not very user friendly, and the animation was temperamental. Also, not all topics which could be asked on the quiz were adequately covered in the lessons. I am not suggesting to teach the quiz verbatim, but a little more subject matter should be provided.

I would have liked to get those satellite pictures explained more into detail. The test seemed to be a little disconnected form the lesson.

very good
latruesdale 2017-02-12 14:33:28

Not very well explained, could have been a lot better.

This was a straitforward lesson

Great animations!

The lesson was fine for the topic. The quiz asked questions that was not adequately covered in the lesson. It was like the quiz was for an expert or after another lesson.

The formation part was interesting, what little there was in the way of explaining what parts to look for before throwing everyone not familiar with it into the deep end with the animations. Could use more in depth discussion of the features, with more examples have what it looks like on water vapor, before going into the user trying to locate those parts on satellite. As a whole, rough around the edges and could use a good polishing.

This most certainly is not a Level 1 module, and may not even qualify as a Level 2 module. As an experienced meteorology student most of the concepts involved were familiar to me, but for others this module would prove an exercise in frustration. To make matters worse, the module itself is poor in its explanations and provides inadequate reasoning and visual cues needed to successfully determine cyclogenesis locations. Even for myself, the process was more difficult than it should have been otherwise. The material covered is worthwhile nonetheless however.
flightdog2 2013-11-20 20:15:01

Very difficult to understand that points represent X and F on the WV images. Not enough explaination on what we are looking at.

An important class, however it felt like there was something missing, a prerequisite perhaps. It was difficult and somewhat frustrating, yet still worthwhile. Needs more information or prerequisite module(s).

Does not give much information for determining the upper level disturbance from the water vapor imagery. There are lots of examples given, but without a description on how to find the markers, it left me struggling with every example.

Good review of wave vapor satellite interpretation and relating it to cyclogenesis.
