This Webcast, NexSat: Preparing Users for the NPOESS/VIIRS Era, describes the NexSat Website, a public educational resource provided by the Naval Research Laboratory and the Integrated Program Office. The NexSat Website offers near real-time access to polar-orbiting satellite imagery and derived products over the lower 48 states and Hawaii from several research and operational satellites. Model data from FNMOC and data from the National Lightning Detection Network are also accessible from the site. Additionally, the wide variety of imagery and derived products available from current polar-orbiting satellites and previews the capabilities of the VIIRS instrument on NPP and NPOESS are also highlighted. In many cases VIIRS will provide the same imagery and derived products at significantly higher spatial and temporal resolution. This tour takes about 8 minutes to complete.
