Best Practices for Identifying and Communicating Tropical Cyclone Threats and Impacts

In this lesson, the learner takes on the role of a forecaster working the community phone lines prior to the landfall of Hurricane Florence (2018). As a forecaster, the learner converses with a local emergency manager (EM) about the potential threats and impacts from the storm based on his/her interpretation of a diverse set of national forecast products. In the conversation with the EM, learners will use national center products and the Hurricane Threats and Impacts (HTI) graphics to communicate the threats and potential impacts Hurricane Florence may bring to the city of New Bern.

Learners need to have a solid understanding of the national center products used to build the HTI graphics, and what the HTI graphics are intended to be used for. Before attempting this lesson, learners new to these products should strongly consider reviewing the following lessons:
