Instrumentation and Measurement of Cloud Hydrometeors and Airborne Particles

Instrumentation and Measurement of Cloud Hydrometeors and Airborne Particles
This lesson will aid learners in developing a basic ability to conduct observational studies of cloud hydrometeors and aerosols or airborne particles. Chapter I of the lesson provides an overview of hydrometeors and aerosols and why these constituents of the atmosphere are important to measure. Chapter II details the instruments used to measure mass, concentration, size distribution, and to obtain hydrometeor and airborne particle images. Chapter III focuses on using the measurements, including being able to interpret plots of concentration and size distribution. The lesson is intended primarily for undergraduate and graduate students seeking to expand their familiarity with atmospheric instrumentation. Some previous knowledge of atmospheric science and mathematics will be useful.
