Wind that is intense
enough at the surface to do damage. When an anemometer is present, winds
of 90 km/h per more are defined as damaging winds.
Notes to definition:
• The fact that damage to structures result is sufficient to substantiate
damaging winds in the absence of anemometer data.
• The act of creating damage is a function of the wind speed and duration
but also the structure being impacted. The wind speeds quoted have been correlated
with creating damage to structures of typical construction quality in Ontario.
