8. The above map shows Hurricane Hugo’s path across South and North Carolina in 1989. Hugo caused quite a lot of death and destruction during its journey across the Carolinas. It made landfall in South Carolina, just south of Mount Pleasant. It travelled to the northwest over Camden, South Carolina, which is in the north-central part of the state.
