The weather report begins to broadcast on the TV:

"Good morning. This is Steve Lyons with a live Weather Channel update on Hurricane Erin. It's 9:30 AM on Thursday, August 3rd. At this moment, Hurricane Erin is making landfall on the Gulf Coast, with the eye projected to pass directly over Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Wind speeds are up to 100 miles per hour for some portions of the storm's most intense sector, the northeast eyewall. Surge is causing tides up to 7 feet above normal along the coast and in Navarre Beach, Florida."

Track chart for Hurricane Erin.description

"This chart shows Erin's intensity change and track over the past several days. The line is colored green for times when Erin was tropical storm strength, Erin was a hurricane for the red portions of the track. After weakening into a tropical storm while crossing the Florida Peninsula, Erin strengthened steadily, finally regaining hurricane status last evening over the Gulf of Mexico, about 130 miles southeast of Pensacola. Erin continued to strengthen as it moved toward the northwest, and is now making landfall as a strong category 1 hurricane."

Doppler radar image of Hurricane Erin over Pensacola.description

"This recent Doppler radar image shows Erin near the coastline just before landfall. The strongest portion of the storm is the bright red area on the northeast side of the eyewall. Intense winds and maybe even a tornado can be expected in this portion of the hurricane as it travels over land. Also, there is a significant danger of flooding in many areas, due to heavy rains accompanying Erin."

"People in the western Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama should follow directions of local emergency management. Do not attempt to drive across flooded roads! If you have remained in your home, we assume you are NOT in the area affected by surge or flooding. Stay indoors in a safe interior room. Avoid the use of electrical appliances. Stay indoors until local emergency management gives you the all clear signal. And, stay..." (Static interrupts the broadcast.)
