Saying Goodbye

The Castillo family standing on their front porch.description

It's now Saturday, August 5th. You've spent a week with the Castillo family, and it's time to leave. You find yourself together with your friend Camille and her parents, Carla and Gilbert, in front of their home.

Carla is the first to speak, "Well it was great having you visit for the past week."

Gilbert continues, "Too bad a hurricane had to come and spoil your vacation. But, at least we were prepared, thanks to your help!"

You say your good-byes and leave the Castillo home in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. On your journey home, your mind wanders, thinking of the many experiences you had during the past week:

  • Hugo the dog holding a cell phone in his mouth.
  • Watching Steve Lyons, hurricane expert, on television.
  • Playing on the laptop computer in the Castillo family's office.
  • Clearing the yard before Hurricane Erin came.
  • Erin's appearance in satellite and radar pictures.
  • Watch and warning maps showing where the storm threatened Florida.
  • Erin's path of destruction across the Florida Peninsula.
  • Going to the market to purchase emergency supplies.
  • Tracking Erin's progress with the pin chart on the office wall.
  • Gilbert and Carla talking with Aunt Betsy on the phone.
  • Spaghetti dinner with the Castillo family.
  • Packing the disaster duffel in the closet.
  • Helping Camille avoid Floyd's ridiculous storm party in the beach house.
  • Power outages during the storm.
