The weather report begins to broadcast on the TV:
"Good evening. This is Steve Lyons reporting live from the Weather
Channel, at 8:00 PM, on Monday, July 31st. Tropical Storm Erin
has been upgraded to Hurricane Erin, with maximum sustained winds of 75
miles per hour, making it a category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson
scale. Erin continues on a path toward the Florida east coast."
description
"Here's the latest infrared satellite image of Erin, the large area
of yellow, blue, and red in the middle of the image. Erin is strengthening
slowly, despite some west wind shear at high altitudes and remains a little
disorganized, which is typical of a weak category 1 hurricane."
description
"The center of Erin is at 23.8° North Latitude and 75.3°
West Longitude. This position is over the central Bahamas, about 340 miles
east-southeast of Miami, Florida."
description
"Currently, Erin is moving toward the west-northwest at about 10
miles per hour. The colored lines on this chart show predicted paths of
Erin according to various computer models. Consistent with most of these
tracks, the National Hurricane Center's official track takes Erin over
South Florida late tomorrow evening."
description
"Hurricane warnings remain in effect for the Bahamas and the Florida
east coast from Sebastian Inlet south through the Florida Keys into the
Dry Tortugas. A hurricane watch has been issued for Lake Okeechobee and
the Florida west coast from Bayport southward. A tropical storm warning
is also in effect for the Florida east coast from New Smyrna Beach to
Sebastian Inlet."
"To repeat, Hurricane Erin continues to strengthen as it moves toward
Southeast Florida. Stay tuned for the latest information on this hurricane."
