Temperature Variations
Solar EUV radiation in solar maximum years can be an order of magnitude higher than in solar minimum years. Increased energy absorption heats the thermosphere, raising neutral densities and increasing satellite drag.
Click the radio buttons below to compare density profiles for different exosphere temperatures. These temperatures would be found at roughly 300-400 km above the earth's surface. The 900 K profiles represents the thermosphere near solar minimum; 1670 k represents a solar max.
