Terrain and Mapping Tools
(last updated 9/2006)
There are several terrain mapping tools available that can be useful when making local fog and stratus forecast. Three-dimensional maps are especially useful in helping to visualize where fog and stratus will tend to be enhanced and persist based on terrain features. One source of these maps is the DeLorme mapping tools, which can be purchased from various sources online .
Other terrain mapping sources available are located at:
- GIS terrain mapping on Web: www.esri.com (ARCVIEW)
- EPA: www.epa.gov/ost/basins/ (hydrologic basins)
- USGS: rockyweb.cr.usgs.gov/elevation/dpi_dem.html (digital elevations)
