This section presents a few experimental developments in the area of fog and low cloud diagnosis and forecasting. It is intended to provide insight on recent and current research on improved tools and guidance for ceiling and visibility forecasting.
Important Note: The studies, methodologies, and tools presented here are considered experimental and not formally sanctioned by any organization for operational forecast purposes.
Although numerical models and observational techniques have shown promise, researchers believe that further improvements in ceiling and visibility analysis and prediction may be achieved by combining multiple data sets in an integrated forecast approach. Several studies have incorporated integrated approaches and automated techniques to develop forecast tools that can address the ceiling and visibility forecast challenge.
