What personal information does COMET collect?
Required information includes e-mail address, password, affiliation, and country. Supplemental information includes first and last name, city, state or province, and the e-mail address used for sending quiz score results to a supervisor, instructor, or any other individual or group, at the discretion of the user. Information describing where a user navigates to in the site is collected passively to determine usage statistics only.
Use of collected information.
The COMET Program will use the information collected to develop usage statistics that will be provided to our sponsors, without identifying personal information. No personally identifiable information will be provided to a third party without the consent of the user; except that UCAR may disclosure information in response to legal process such as a court order or subpoena. By default, personally identifiable information is not released to a third party. Release of such information (quiz scores) is controlled by the user and can be enabled or disabled at any time. The COMET Program may post usage statistics publicly.
Cookies.
This system uses session cookies to improve your interaction with the site and to ensure that authentication information does not travel over the internet more than once per session. These cookies are deleted upon logging out or completely closing the browser.
Security.
The COMET Program maintains all personal data with technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect against loss, unauthorized access, destruction, misuse, modification, and improper use. No computer system or information can be completely protected against every possible hazard, but we provide reasonable and appropriate controls to protect personal information against foreseeable hazards. All personal information supplied to our system is encrypted before transfer over the internet. Passwords are encrypted in our data base. The site uses SSL (https) encryption.
Children.
Children under the age of 13 are not allowed to register themselves on the site. If you are under the age of 13 a parent or guardian must register for you.
Third Party Sites.
Neither COMET nor UCAR are responsible for the privacy practices of non-UCAR web sites to which this web site may link.
