SUBJECT: Web Agreement

We are pleased to announce that a Web Agreement between UCAR/COMET and the NWS has been signed. This agreement will facilitate the education and training of meteorologists and hydrologists through the use of NWS materials on the MetEd Web site and it covers the following offices:

NWS Eastern Region, Bohemia, NY
NWS Alaskan Region, Anchorage, AK
NWS Pacific Region, Honolulu, HI
NWS Western Region, Salt Lake City, UT
NWS Central Region, Kansas, City, MO
NWS Southern Region, Ft. Worth, TX
Office Hydrology, Silver Spring, MD
Office of Meteorology, Silver Spring, MD
Office of Systems Development, Silver Spring, MD
Office of System Operations, Silver Spring, MD
National Centers for Environmental Prediction, Camp Springs, MD

This Agreement has been initiated to avoid having each NWS employee that contributes to the MetEd Web site sign an individual intellectual property agreement.

The Web Agreement allows the NWS to publish training materials on the MetEd site. It further grants to the COMET Program the right to use and distribute these materials for non-profit, research or educational purposes. The agreement further authorizes the COMET Program to allow such uses for third parties; and it warrants that the NWS owns or has the right to use third party materials.

An overview of the Web Agreement procedures has been written to clarify the copyright clearance process.
