Record warm temperatures were recorded in much of the upper Midwest on January 7-8, 2003. Wisconsin had its warmest day on 8 January, with a number of high temperature records tied or broken, as can be seen in this public message list, courtesy of the NWS IWIN web server and the local WI forecast offices in LaCrosse and Milwaukee.
As can be seen in some of the older items in the public message list, the record temperatures were anticipated as early as overnight on 6 January. However, the 12-km Eta model actually cooled the diagnosed 2-m temperatures for the afternoon of 8 January as the forecast initial times drew nearer to that day.
