Now we move forward to the seven-day time frame, at the "long" end of the medium range forecast period for the WFOs. We'll work our way downward from the tropopause in examining the MREFs.
The graphic below shows the position of 250-hPa winds exceeding 130-kt over the North American sector. Note the wind maxima over eastern North America; even the ensemble mean shows winds exceeding 130-kt over the Mid-Atlantic states. Generally, the orientation of the jet is east-west at latitudes from 34-41°N and east of 100°W. One member in red (eps n1) shows a distinct northeast-southwest orientation, however, while member eps p4 also shows suggests such an orientation for the 250-hPa jet.
